I went to my first concert last night and they had 3 bands there.
The first was called powerglove and the first thing they said was "Houston, let's play some Tetris!" and started playing a remix of the tetris song. So I figured out then that they do remixes of videogame music. The next song they played was a Megaman remix where they had us shout "FUCK THAT BIRD" over and over at parts of the songs after he told us about some bird boss in one of the games. Then they played some othersongs but I don't remember the orders, but they played a transformers song that they didn't even have a name for yet, a Sonic remix (I heard the Carnival music from Sonic 3 in there), a Mario remix which they had a Mario plushie for, an X-men song, and a Powerrangers song. Personally I thought that band was pretty awesome, and they were funny.
The next band was called Mutiny Within. They were pretty good but it wasn't my taste in music since it was mostly just screaming and the same lines being repeated over and over. Their singer did know how to put on a good show though, and at times he would go off the stage and stand right in front of the audience. Someone right next to me tried to grab his hair at one point though lol.
And then Sonata Arctica! I was glad to be in front, even if it was by one of the amps. I was on the side with the keyboards though, so it was worth it. First, before I tell you more, they had a problem with the keyboards, they were too quiet for smoe reason and were out of tune, but despite that everything still sounded fine pretty much. Anyways, the first song they played was Flag in the Ground, which sounded awesome live. Then they played Black Sheep, then I forgot the order of the next songs, but they played Fullmoon, The Last Amazing Grays, Last Drop Falls, 8th Commandment, Broken, The Dead Skin, The Cage, In Black and White, and last was Don't Say a Word.
The funny part about Don't Say a Word is that it's supposed to be a song that sounds creepy, but since the keyboards were tuned up a bit too high for some reason, it sounded like a really happy song. I know it wasn't what they intended but it actually sounded really good.
Anyways, some other things they did during the concert: At one point the singer something about needing an animal to talk about, so he went up to the keyboard player and asked him to name an animal, so their keyboard player, Henkka, said "A tumbleweed?" So their singer proceeded to tell him he needed work on biology. Afterwards he was saying his band memmbers are all like different animals. I forgot what he said the keyboard player was. He said their bass player is a quiet guy so he's a parrot, but that that didn't seem fitting for some reason. Then he said their drummer was a rabbit and he had 2 kids to prove it. Then their guitarist took the mic and said "I'm a teddy bear".
Another funny moment was during one of their songs when their singer walked up and grabbed the keyboard player's beard, so the keyboard player started chasing him. During another song the singer did something else to the keyboard player and he and the keyboard player started play fighting on stage while still playing the music, it was funny to see.
They also had a part where the singer started yodling during the song Fullmoon, which I had seen in some of the live videos before, but he added some more to it. Hmm... they also part of Take Five (you know, that jazz song), and they also played the instrumental parts to Bad to the Bone (dunno if that's the name of it, but yeah, you should know what song it is) while talking and stuff. At one point the band left stage so we all started cheering "SONATA!" so the keyboard player came back and went all out on his keytar, then their guitarist came out and went all out on his guitar. One amazing moment during that was when their guitarist had one hand over his eyes and was playing a solo in his other hand. Simply amazing.
The singer also had fun with the audience at times by doing stuff like "All the guys here tonight say Hey!" and we'd all say hey, then "All the ladys out here tonight say I'm not that good at math but I'm emotionally (I don't remember the rest of what he said)" and we all just laughed. And there was a point where the singer had us repeat everything after him, so it was pretty much like.
Singer: "Hey"
Audience: "Hey"
Singer: "We want"
Audience: "We want"
Singer: "hehe"
Audience: "hehe"
Singer: "Awesome"
Audience: "Awesome"
Their singer also said things before a lot of the songs to give hints to what song they were about to play. For Last Drop Falls, the audience was cheering from the last song they played, then he just said "Silence! ... is the album this next song is from" and he said it was a slow song that you can dance to or sing along if you want, and that it had the "without underwear" part. (Dunno why I remember all this stuff he said). For Don't Say a Word, he said they would have named it Shut the Fuck Up, but that that probably wouldn't work as well. For the Last Amazing Grays he gave a speech about how people that he knows seem to all be getting older and how his son is growing up and starting to rebel, and then said that sometimes you have to let the young lead the pack (that sealed it for me to know that The Last Amazing Grays was going to be their next song). For Juliet he asked how many people have read Shakesphere so we all raised our hands. Then he started talking about him and said "We have something in common. We both like to drink" then he drank some beer and set it down, then their guitarist drank the rest of it while he wasn't looking. Then he said "We have another thing in common, Juliet" then they played Juliet. And for Broken, they said that it was a song from an album that they've kind of ignored and that the name of the song was like Henkka's state of mind.
And yeah, it was a really fun concert. I didn't get to stay and talk to the band afterwards because my mom didn't want to wait, but I still had a ton of fun and also bought two Sonata Arctica shirts there. At the end of the show their guitarist threw some of his guitar picks into the audience and the drummer gave away 4 of his drum sticks. Then they started handing out papers with the set list on it, then they handed out some of the bottles of water they had left and I got one (yay free water).
My ears are still ringing from being so close to the amp, but it was worth it.
Oh yeah, forgot to type it out, but their intro song was the instrumental version of Everything Fades to Gray, and they played both Vodka and the singing version of Everything Fades to Gray as their ending songs.
Edit: Whoops, forgot to mention that they also played Paid in Full. I guess they played more songs than I thought.
