So I can see here that most of you guys seem to love sonic. Most of the more recent games have been crap, which is a disappointment. HOWEVER, when I heard about Sonic 4 I was pretty excited, especially with its summer 2010 release. I know that its been delayed, but have we seen/heard anything about it since? Was it shown at e3? Does it have a solid release date? Hopefully you guys can help answer some of my questions.

Most of the more recent games have been crap >Implying that we all agreeThe only games that have been crap, in my opinion, are the sonic rush games, the storybook games (Black knight and secret rings), the Olympic games, and the hoverboard games.

Really? Sonic Rush was OKAY at least, but yeah, that turbo button is something that made it crappy, the hoverboard games were like you said, crap. I found the first storybook game okay, but the second was shitastic, due to Sonic welding a sword. All the games above I find them to be mediocre. Many hated Sonic 06 for the broken controlls and how "Sonic was sucking lips with a human princess" as some reviewer said. But I always ignore the crap and look for it's good points, cuz I'm just sympathetic like that. I don't want to start a flame war, but I think that the games so far besides unleashed were just crap to those crazy fanboys who "only wanted original sonic gameplay. I say, enjoy the game for what it is, not what it's not. Back to topic.
I heard that you can play as super sonic, yet you can use homming attack, and it just has 3D effects. THAT is going back into to roots of the game, while adding something new. Super Mario Galaxy 2 also did the same thing. They didn't make coins impossible to find by replacing practically 70% of them with star bits like it's predecessor, they used more 2D platformer levels, and even brought back the World 1 and 2 stuff. AND YET! (Play epic the new Super Mario Galaxy 2 music) They have things as a mix, from new power ups, properly balanced, and old ones with a new purpose. You fly on a FREAKING SPACESHIP BASED ON MARIO'S HEAD. This is what "Returning to the roots of a series (While adding something new)" means.
Let's not go off topic though.

Retro elitists piss me off
I'd prefer any of the recent games to the clunky feeling Genesis era, to be honest. I could never stand how the games were about going fast yet the uberclose 2-D camera angle required you to remember the entire stage pixel by pixel being that you couldn't see shit until it was practically in your face. That and the whole "Every action is mapped to a single button" thing, that was silly.

I don't think SOnic 4 had an E3 convention, then again I only really cared about Nintendo's conference.
About the new games however, I'm kind of sick of hearing everybody diss them for no reason other than "BAAW GIMMICKS BAAAW NOT LIKE ORIGINAL!" It kind of pisses me off how people reguse to accept new games for being, well, new... >_>
@ Initial comment:
opinion lol, we don't all agree.
@ Pyro's comment:
I've never really played Rush so I can't lend my own opinion there, and I do agree that SATSR (I haven't played Black Knight) was pretty terrible. Olympic games I never really counted as a fully fledged Sonic game as much as a crossover, but I never really enjoyed playing the first one when I did. I do however, disagree with your SOnic Riders comment. I personally really liked the idea of hoverboard racing. Mostly because as a racing game, it went fast, Like, really fast. The controls worked well, the stage choice was kind of shallow, but the characters and boards were fun, and I thought the artwork/music/graphics to be very colorful. I haven't played Riders 2 yet (Notice my lack of playing sequels xD, I do want Zero Gravity though ;~; )
@ Hydroxian, we do disagree a lot, don't we?
Explained earlier
You dislike it because he was holding a sword? That's pretty much crying about gimmicks again. Also, what does 'Games above' refer to?
Really? I liked Sonic '06, the controls didn't seem broken to me. Also the sympathetic look comment is just ridiculous, you're pretty much saying 'I'm going to pretend it's a perfect game! I won't accept the truth!' Also, I love how you contradict yourself. You say earlier on that you think the new sonic games are crap, then right away you say that only crazy sonic fanboys think that way, lolwut?

Yeah that's a good point and in my opinion was one thing that always annoyed me about the older sonic games, but overall they were pretty fun. The last sonic game that I really enjoyed was Sonic Adventure 2. I did try Sonic 06, but it felt like the game was playing for me and I had pretty little control other then just just hold the control stick foward. I do however, disagree with your SOnic Riders comment. I personally really liked the idea of hoverboard racing. Mostly because as a racing game, it went fast, Like, really fast. I haven't played Riders 2 yet (Notice my lack of playing sequels xD, I do want Zero Gravity though ;~; ) I liked the original sonic riders, tho never played the one on the Wii. It wasn't really a sonic style game in that sense wehn comparing it to other titles, but I liked it for what it was: a decent racing game with solid controls that overall worked very well. Anyhow, so no news on Sonic 4 then?

I have to say I liked the storybook games, even if the concept was odd. I think Black Knight is one of my favorites because of all the work that went into it; when was the last game that had a REAL extras section?
I haven't played much of Rush, so I can't say anything.
And I liked Sonic Riders, but I've only played the second one. I seem to have a habit of playing the sequels first. The concept is great, but I think it's lacking something. (Length? Variety?) Also, the stage was always too narrow for me.
As for the Olympic games, I think it just was meant to be played with others. That and it wasn't really a Sonic game.
Never played '06
Weirdo has a valid point.

What about Shadow? Would that count as one of the old or the new ones? And as for the other games mentioned, never played any of them.

I won't accept the truth!' Also, I love how you contradict yourself. You say earlier on that you think the new sonic games are crap, then right away you say that only crazy sonic fanboys think that way, lolwut? Ah, I am sorry that I didn't say it the right way. You see, some gimmicks are little things. For example: In Sonic Adventure DX, Big the Cat's Story, was practically a gimmick, due to it's gameplay. This is what I call, the "Little Gimmick. It doesn't occur in the whole game, and if you aren't an imature idiot, you wouldn't be screaming at how it doesn't fit. Then, there are the BIG gimmicks. These are from things that may ruin more of the game. While some, are easy to suck up, others could cause a total breakdown. For example: in sonic rush, half of the levels could be completely ran through with almost no effort with the turbo button. This results in the "Game plays itself while you watch" problem. Or, the night stages in Sonic unleashed. If someone was not expecting long beat em up gameplay, or they strictly want nothing but stages simmialar or equal to the daytime stages, they might get pissed. I only get annoyed with the big gimmicks that actually ruins the fun of the game, while fan boys and critics get annoyed with all gimmicks. THAT'S what I meant. Sorry I wasn't being specific. I just mean, not all gimmicks that can be annoying ruins the game. Some people don't look at the whole picture, rather than the little things. And yet, not all gimmicks are to be ignored, since they aren't, err, little. Also, I'm not saying I don't accept the truth or anything, but rather like I said before, I am just trying to look at the whole picture. Btw, I only played 06 once with a friend of mine, so that's probably just me not used to the controls. I admit that.

Yeah, I own unleashed for the ps2 and beat it all. The day levels were an adrenaline rush, while the night levels were fun to beat guys up and all the while, going for a best time! Kinda like day levels but more punching involved. Overall, I give it a 8/10! Shadow was unique however, the way you kinda got to choose your own path in his life was absolutely amazing! Im sure any Sonic fan could agree (note I didnt say would but could) you think?
