Well, finally getting my Windows a workin', I've decided to work over a little review for SRB2 (Lol Rhyme)
--General
Over-all, for a fan-made game, SRB2 is decent. In fact, over decent. I really appreciate this fan game for doing something different from the others, and actually being innovative. The story is pretty general, but overall, the game's great. Honestly, whoever made this game should be hired by SEGA.
--Gameplay 8.5
The 2.5D perspective is nice. But, since co-oping a game with two entirely different elements can lead to some minor problems. The controls are basic, and are easy to handle, but is it me or does it feel as if you're running on ice? The controls feel somewhat like Sonic R in the fact they tend to jerk from time to time, and your brakes seem to be cut off. This depends one which character you're playing as, but nevertheless, you still sometimes lose slight control. Also, their are slight 'Slip through polygon' glitches, as having such jagged 2D sprites being used in a 3D perspective. (You'd probably go like "What about Sonic 3D Blast? But S3DB's sprites were formatted and such to work at a 3D perspective.)
Graphics-- 7.5
Boo! Hiss! The worst part of a review: Graphics! I have to say, they used the sprites pretty well. I also liked how they 'Re-Drew' Sonic to make him look as if the game really did have different angles. Unfortunately, some BG objects (Such as springs and Item Monitors) Didn't convert well and still look 2D-ish.
Music & Sound-- 8.5
SRB2 has really surprised me by using its own tracks. I was expecting remixes of older Sonic themes, but was really surprised how they made their own. (That, or they masked the Songs well enough not to sound like the original).
Minor Complaints--
My only real complaint is how the camera is really kinda shit. I know camera is not really important, but it's still annoying to have to format the camera by yourself to make it work good, and it still jerks and messes up alot. I also have a slight problem with the level design, the 2.5D environments are nice, but they don't really feel like a Sonic stage. (Don't bring up S3DB because that was a 'Find crap and then get to the goal' kinda game) Alot of time is lost looking for the tiny goal sign within the labyrinth.
Overall-- 8.9
SRB2 is a very well designed- almost flawless- fan game. With only minor kinks to work out. This game really is what SEGA needs to consider
