Bad EGG and what it really is.

Well, I was going over the Bulbapedia archives and noticed some strange stuff about the Bad EGG from pokemon. I know what it is in the 4th generation games, but its use as a placeholder for badly hacked pokemon and messed up cheat codes in the 3rd generation makes no sense to me, especially when it finally hatches into basically a WTF Bomb and destroys your save file.

So what actually IS the Bad EGG? I have hatched them before in Pokemon Diamond (I don't want to risk it in Platinum) and I have never had a problem, but I have seen it destroy saved game data on 3rd generation cartridges when hatched. Also, why is egg in Bad EGG capitalized while all other times it's just all lower case?

I'm not really sure, but I'll post some info I've found while playing around with hacks in sapphire 4 years ago. Or rather, some text boxes that were programmed into the game as a just-in-case situation.


"There are no pokemon" <--- Got that when I used hacks so I had no pokemon in my party, and then tried to use a TM.

"There is no information on this Pokemon yet" (or something like that, I don't remember it 100% accurately). <--- Got that when I caught the questionmark thing that loads when the game programs a battle but doesn't program a pokemon for you to fight.

As far as the Bad EGG goes, I think EGG is capitalized because all eggs are whenever you get them. The game just places "Bad" before it. Bad EGG might have been created to discourage hacking.

That could be it, but that doesn't explain why it works differently in the 4th generation games. I have hatched Bad EGGs before in Diamond (well one, and it hatched into my manga themed Deoxys).

I've had bad experiences with Bad EGGs. If your battle cheats go wrong, you beat the opponents pokemon but you trick the game into thinking there are more pokemon left, which is one of many simple mistakes,, your opponent will send out a Bad EGG, then you are screwed over. The Bad EGGs don't quit spawning in the opponent's party.
Catching one usually causes in a freeze... Or it will be sent to the PC, and disappear.

Well, what I'm trying to figure out is whether the Bad EGG is truly a glitch or if it is actually a part of the game. This is one of those unusual creepypastas where we know almost everything about the subject but we still don't know what it is. We might have to decompile a ROM to find out.

(So I was technically playing FR.)
